Plan Review
In accordance with the North Carolina Rules Governing the Sanitation of Child Care Centers 15A NCAC 18A .2800, plans must be submitted to the local health department for approval prior to beginning construction of a new center or making changes to an existing center. Plans for "chain" or "franchised" center must be submitted to the State.
Inclusions in Plan
Plans submitted to Carteret County Environmental Health must include:
- Acompleted Carteret County Environmental Health child care establishment application
- Menu, if providing food service
- Equipment, plumbing and lighting layouts
- Equipment specifications for food service equipment
- Information on private well and septic system, if applicable
Franchise Establishments
Plans for "chain" or "franchise" establishments must be submitted for review to DHHS, Division of Environmental Health, Environmental Health Services Section, Children's Environmental Health Branch. View

Plans may also be required by other agencies such as building inspections and
North Carolina Division of Child Development.
