Newborn / Postpartum Home Visits

A nurse from Carteret County Health Department is available to visit all new mothers and their babies who have Medicaid coverage.

The nurse will call to arrange a visit in your home within two weeks of the birth of your baby.

How It's Helpful

So many changes take place once you and your baby leave the hospital. This early visit gives you the opportunity to talk about such things as infant feeding, bonding, parenting, family, and social support. The visit is designed to meet your needs.

Things to Consider as a New Parent

The home visiting nurse can provide up-to-date information on immunizations, childcare, infant growth and development, and safe sleep practices.

She will encourage you to keep your postpartum checkup and to get regular medical checkups for you and your new baby.

For more information, contact the Health Department.
