CARTERET COUNTY, NC (October 12, 2023) – The Carteret County Solid Waste Division, in collaboration with Coastal Environmental Partnership (CEP), is encouraging Carteret County residents to dispose of unwanted household hazardous materials in a safe and environmentally conscious way at an upcoming household hazardous waste recycling event.
Taking place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, the event will be hosted at the Carteret County Health Department parking lot, located at 3820 Bridges Street in Morehead City.
Onsite staff will be available to collect small quantities of various waste products such as cooking oil, automotive fluids (gasoline, used motor oil, anti-freeze), lawn and gardening pesticides, batteries, and paint. Materials such as infectious waste, solvents, gas cylinders, commercial waste, radioactive waste, ammunition, and explosives are strictly prohibited.
To make this process as convenient as possible, staff at the event will provide drive-thru disposal options, allowing participants to remain in their vehicles. This recycling event is exclusively open to Carteret County residents, and proof of residency will be required.
CEP, as a public solid waste management authority, serves the counties of Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico. It is dedicated to offering residents an environmentally sustainable and cost-efficient solid waste disposal system. Additionally, CEP organizes a series of collection days for household hazardous waste in all three counties.
