CARTERET COUNTY, NC (October 17, 2023) – In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Carteret County announced plans to illuminate the county courthouse cupola green from November 6-12 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort uniting counties to support military veterans. The initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist veterans and their families.
“As a county, we are proud to participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans,” said Brenda DuBose, Carteret County Veterans Services Director. “This initiative holds special significance for us, as it allows us to demonstrate our support for the brave men and women who have served our nation. Veterans face unique challenges, and it is our duty to ensure they have access to the resources and services they need.”
The County Board of Commissioners have embraced participation in this initiative with the goal of sparking conversations among friends and neighbors by changing one light bulb to green. The gesture emphasizes the importance of ensuring that our veterans are not only recognized but also deeply appreciated and supported.
“Operation Green Light offers an impactful way to collectively express our appreciation for the invaluable public service our veterans have provided,” said Jimmy Farrington, Chairman of the Carteret County Board of Commissioners. “By shining the green light, we are conveying our gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions made by our veterans and their families, both on the battlefield and at home. We encourage everyone to join us in displaying a green light for our veterans and to reflect on how, as a nation and at the county level, we assist our military service personnel in their transition back into civilian life upon completing their service to our country.”
