CARTERET COUNTY, NC (February 2, 2024) – The Carteret County Board of Elections reminds residents that all voter registration forms for the 2024 statewide primary election are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024. This is also the last day to make changes to your party affiliation.
To register to vote in Carteret County, residents must meet specific eligibility criteria. These requirements include being a citizen of the United States, establishing residency in Carteret County at least 30 days before the election, reaching the age of 18 or older by the next general election day, and not currently serving a felony sentence, which includes any period of probation, post-release supervision, or parole.
Once residents confirm their eligibility to vote in Carteret County, they can select from two primary methods to complete the voter registration process in North Carolina. First, eligible individuals who are DMV customers with a NC driver's license or DMV-issued ID can utilize the online registration service. This service enables users to register, update their address, and modify their party affiliation. Alternatively, residents can choose to complete the Voter Registration Form and submit it to the Board of Elections office in Beaufort. New registrants in Carteret County should send the original form by mail or drop it off at the Board of Elections office, while existing registered voters making updates can return the form by email or fax.
Residents who are not registered in Carteret County may also register to vote during the early voting period at any of the four locations throughout the county. To use same-day registration, a person must complete a voter registration application and show an election official proof of a residential address in the county. This proof of address may consist of a current and valid photo ID or a document showing the name and current address of the applicant.
