Carteret County residents encouraged to attend Hurricane Preparedness Expo

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (April 29, 2024) – In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, Carteret County Emergency Services is hosting its annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo on Monday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crystal Coast Civic Center, located at 3505 Arendell Street in Morehead City.

This free, family-friendly event offers residents a one-stop shop for hurricane preparedness resources. Attendees can learn from local, state, and federal experts about what to expect during hurricane season and how to prepare their homes and families.

The expo will feature informative presentations from meteorologists, emergency managers, county staff, and key community organizations. Attendees can also visit booths from various vendors, including the American Red Cross, NCDHHS, and local service organizations. Additionally, Carteret County departments will be on hand to answer questions.

The expo will also offer:

  • Hurricane season outlook from the National Weather Service
  • Evacuation zone look-ups
  • Special Needs Assistance Program registration
  • Giveaways and Prizes
  • Expert presentations, including "Preparedness for Hurricane Season 2024" by Erik Heden, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Forecast office in Newport/Morehead City, NC. Information sessions begin at 9:30 a.m.

The event is co-organized by Carteret County Emergency Services, the US National Weather Service at Newport/Morehead City, ULECAN Union de Latinos del Este de Carolina del Norte, and the Carteret Long Term Recovery Alliance.
