News Releases Posted on October 27, 2025

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (October 27, 2025) – Carteret County Animal Control Services will host a free rabies vaccination clinic for pets on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 to 11 a.m., or while supplies last, in the parking lot of the Carteret County Health Department, 3820 Bridges St., Morehead City. This drive-thru event allows pets and their owners to remain in their vehicles. The clinic is open to all Carteret County residents.

Clinic guidelines:

  • Do not attend if you or your pets are feeling unwell.
  • Limit of three pets per family.
  • Keep pets under control at all times, either caged or on a leash no longer than six feet. Cats and ferrets must be transported in carriers.
  • Follow signage and instructions from clinic staff.

North Carolina law requires all dogs and cats over four months of age to be vaccinated against rabies. To remain protected, dogs and cats should receive two rabies vaccinations one year apart, then one vaccination every three years.

All animal bites, whether from domestic animals or wildlife, should be reported to Carteret County Animal Control Services. Call 252-728-8585 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or 252-726-1911 after hours, weekends, and holidays for guidance on potential rabies exposure.
