CARTERET COUNTY, NC (April 22, 2024) – On May 14, 2024, a second primary election will take place statewide in North Carolina to determine the Republican candidates advancing to the November general election for the positions of Lieutenant Governor and State Auditor.
To help decide which candidate moves forward to the 2024 general election, the following individuals will be eligible to take part in the second primary: registered Republican voters, registered Unaffiliated voters who participated in the Republican primary during the March 5 statewide primary election, or registered Unaffiliated voters who chose not to vote in the statewide primary.
Those who are registered with the Democratic, Green, Libertarian, or No Labels parties are ineligible to participate, as are Unaffiliated voters who chose to participate in the Democratic or Libertarian primary on March 5.
Early voting will take place at the Carteret County Board of Elections office located at 1702 Live Oak St., Suite 200, Beaufort. Eligible voters can cast their ballots from April 25 to May 11, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Additionally, early voting will be available at the County Board of Elections office on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Same-day registration and party affiliation changes will not be allowed during the second primary. Absentee-by-mail ballots are also available for eligible voters who request them by 5 p.m. on May 7. These ballots must be returned to the Board of Elections office by 7:30 p.m. on May 14.
On Election Day, Tuesday, May 14, polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters who vote in person must do so at their assigned Election Day precinct. The Board of Elections office will be open for voting during the early voting period only, and will not be open for voting on Election Day. Voters can find their assigned polling place by visiting the Election Day Polling Search feature on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
