CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (October 14, 2025) – Carteret County Senior Services will host a free Shred-a-Thon to help older adults protect against identity theft on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Leon Mann, Jr. Enrichment Center, 3820 Galantis Drive, Morehead City.
Funded by the Senior Medicare Patrol Identity Shred-a-Thon/Fraud Prevention Grant, the event is open to Carteret County residents aged 50 and older. Participants should bring a photo ID and a document showing their current address, such as a utility bill, tax bill, or voter registration card.
Residents are encouraged to bring sensitive documents, including bank statements, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts, and other paperwork containing personal information. All materials will be securely shredded on-site and recycled.
For safety and efficiency, the event is limited to personal use. Businesses cannot participate. Items not accepted include binders, metal hanging folders, binder clips, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and electronics.
