Make a Difference for Local Caregivers
The Carteret County Leon Mann Jr. Enrichment Center is developing a new Respite Program to support older adults living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. We are looking for compassionate volunteers to provide companionship to participants, giving their family caregivers a vital moment of rest.
How It Works
We are currently in the early stages of development and are building a Volunteer Interest List. By joining this list, you are asking to be the first to know when program details and training dates are finalized.
Volunteer Requirements
To ensure the safety and comfort of our participants, all volunteers must complete:
- Background Check: A successful screening is required for all county volunteers.
- Comprehensive Training: Includes general county orientation and specialized dementia care training (provided by the Center).
- Safety Protocols: Training on program guidelines and redirection techniques.
What You’ll Do
No medical experience is necessary. Volunteers focus on engagement and companionship through:
- Games, music, and crafts.
- Friendly conversation and social interaction.
- Providing a reliable, supportive presence.
