Civil Process

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the service of all civl process papers within Carteret County. These processes include:

  • Attachments
  • Child Custody Orders
  • Civil Orders for Arrest
  • Civil Summons
  • Claim and Deliveries
  • No Contact Orders 50(c)
  • Juvenile Summons
  • Tax Warrants
  • Writs of Possession (real and personal property)
  • Writs of Executions (enforcement of money judgments)

PAYMENTS

The Civil Division will accept the following forms of payment: cash, business check, money order, or cashier's check made payable to the Carteret County Sheriff's Office.

Note: The Sheriff's Office does not accept personal checks

CIVIL PROCESS GUIDELINES

  • All papers must be dated, signed and have a file number listed
  • Persons must reside in Carteret County
  • Papers MUST list a physical address for the defendant. The Sheriff's Office cannot serve papers to a post office box
  • Mail paperwork to Carteret County Sheriff's Office, 304 Craven Street, Beaufort, NC 28516, Attention: Civil Process
  • Faxed copies are served only in case of an emergency
