CARTERET COUNTY, NC (November 27, 2023) – The candidate filing period for the upcoming 2024 elections begins at noon on Monday, December 4, 2023, and ends at noon on Friday, December 15, 2023. Local candidates seeking a county office are required to file at the Carteret County Board of Elections office.
During the filing process, all fees must be paid in cash or personal check. For filing fees exceeding $50, payment must be made in the form of a check and cannot be paid by a business check. The calculation of filing fees are based on 1% of the annual salary associated with the respective office.
Candidates can file for the following offices at the County Board of Elections, 1702 Live Oak St., Suite 200, in Beaufort:
Carteret County Commissioner
Three seats, Districts 3, 4, and 5
Four-year term
Filing Fee: $48
School Board Member
Three seats, Districts 2, 3, and 4
Four-year term
Filing Fee: $46
N.C. State Senate District 2
One seat
Two-year term
Filing Fee: $139.51
N.C. House of Representative District 13
One seat
Two-year term
Filing Fee: $139.51
Filing for congressional seat, District Court Judge, State Court of Appeal Judge, and Superior Court Judge takes place at the North Carolina State Board of Elections in Raleigh. The 2024 Primary Election will be on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
