CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (September 10, 2024) – Litter Free Land and Sea is teaming up with the N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores to host a beach cleanup during International Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9 to 10 a.m. The annual event invites volunteers across the county to help remove litter from local beaches and promote environmental stewardship.
For over 35 years, the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by Ocean Conservancy, has harnessed the power of communities worldwide to combat ocean trash. This year, Litter Free Land and Sea is recruiting local volunteers of all ages to participate at various beach locations across Carteret County. The goal of this initiative is to remove as much trash and debris as possible from local beaches.
Volunteers can participate by joining cleanup efforts at any of the following locations:
- Radio Island Public Beach Access, 501 Marine Dr., Beaufort, NC
- Circle Regional Beach Access, 201 West Atlantic Blvd., Atlantic Beach, NC
- Iron Steamer Public Access, 345 Salter Path Rd., Pine Knoll Shores, NC
- Western Ocean Regional Access, 9803 Louise Ave., Emerald Isle, NC
Participants will be provided with water, gloves, trash bags, safety gear, and trash pickup tools while supplies last. The event will proceed rain or shine, and volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather. Please note that some locations may require paid parking, and Litter Free Land and Sea, along with the N.C. Aquarium, are not responsible for parking fees or tickets.
Litter Free Land and Sea is an initiative by Carteret County Government, Crystal Coast Economic Development, Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, and various community partners. The program engages the community in responsible solutions to maintain a clean and beautiful environment through public education, litter prevention, collection, and enforcement.
