[ARCHIVED] Early Voting for General Election begins October 17

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (October 14, 2024) – Early voting for the Nov. 5 General Election begins October 17. Voters will be required to show photo identification in order to vote in this election. Citizens who do not have a photo ID can get a free ID at the Board of Elections office.

Early voting for the General Election will be available from Oct. 17 through Nov. 2 at the following locations: 

  • Carteret County Board of Elections at 1702 Live Oak St., Suite 200, Beaufort, from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Fort Benjamin Park at 100 McQueen Ave., Newport, from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Morehead City Recreation Center at 1600 Fisher St., Morehead City, from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Western Park at 275 Old Hwy 58, Cedar Point, from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

All locations will also be open on the last day of early voting, on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Voters can vote at any of the early voting sites, regardless of their residence.

Curbside voting will be available at all early voting sites for those unable to enter due to age, physical disability, or other barriers.

Citizens may register to vote and vote on the same day during the early voting period. To register to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old or will be by the date of the next general election, a legal resident of Carteret County for 30 days before Election Day, and not currently serving a felony sentence, which includes any period of probation, post-release supervision, or parole.

Voters must present an acceptable photo ID to vote. The Carteret County Board of Elections offers free voter photo IDs to registered Carteret County voters during regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. IDs can be issued anytime, except between the end of early voting and Election Day.

Acceptable forms of ID include: 

  • North Carolina driver’s license
  • State ID from the NCDMV (non-operator ID)
  • Driver’s license or non-driver’s license from another state, District of Columbia, or U.S. territory (if registered in NC within 90 days of the election)
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport card
  • Voter ID card issued by the County Board of Elections
  • College or university student ID approved by the State Board of Elections
  • State or local government or charter school employee ID approved by the State Board of Elections.

If a voter does not present an acceptable ID, they may still vote by either:

  • Completing an ID Exception Form and casting a provisional ballot.
  • Voting with a provisional ballot and providing an acceptable form of photo ID to the County Board of Elections office by 5 p.m. the day before the county canvass.
