[ARCHIVED] Final day to pay property taxes without interest is Jan. 6, 2025

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (December 26, 2024) – Carteret County property owners are reminded that the deadline to pay 2024 property taxes without incurring interest is Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.

To avoid interest charges, payments must be made or postmarked by Jan. 6. Property tax bills were mailed in August to the property owners of record.

New property owners should verify whether payment has been made by checking the tax bill lookup tool or calling (252) 728-8485.

Payment Options

  • Online: Visit carteretcountytax.com/taxes to pay by credit card, debit card, eCheck, or PayPal.
  • By phone: Call 1-888-544-9433 to pay with a credit card.
  • By mail: Send a check or money order with the payment stub in the provided envelope. Make checks payable to "County of Carteret."
  • In person: Taxpayers can visit the Tax Administration Office at 302 Courthouse Square, Beaufort, or the Western Office at 701 Cedar Point Blvd., Cedar Point, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For faster service, they are encouraged to bring a copy of their tax bill or access their bill details and document the property key online at carteretcountytax.com/taxes. Payments can be made by cash, check, money order, credit card or debit card; a convenience fee applies to card transactions.

Payments postmarked after Jan. 6 will incur a 2% interest charge for January. An additional 3/4% interest will be added each month until the balance is paid in full.

Payment Plans

Property owners who anticipate difficulty in paying their taxes in full by the deadline should contact the Tax Administration Office at (252) 728-8485 to discuss payment plan options.

Important Notes

  • The Tax Administration Office will be closed on Jan. 1, 2026 in observance of New Year’s Day.
  • According to North Carolina General Statute 105-348, failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt property owners from their tax obligation or any applicable interest charges.

For more information, visit carteretcountync.gov or call the Tax Administration Office at (252) 728-8485.
