CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (April 28, 2025) — In celebration of Older Americans Month in May, Carteret County Senior Services invites the community to its 11th Annual Healthy Aging Expo on Friday, May 9, from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Leon Mann, Jr. Enrichment Center. This event will connect seniors and caregivers with essential resources, interactive exhibits, and expert guidance for vibrant, independent living.
"We're excited to offer Carteret County's seniors a chance to discover new resources and connect with folks who can help them thrive," said Melanie Reed, Senior Services Program Superintendent. "This expo is all about giving back to the people who built our community by putting valuable health info, caregiver connections, and a good time all under one roof."
Attendees will engage with more than 30 local organizations spanning health care, financial planning, housing and recreational opportunities. Highlights include:
- Health screenings and wellness tips from leading providers.
- Connect directly with experts on senior healthcare options, Medicare and Medicaid benefits, and long-term care planning.
- Wellness Program Demonstrations (including gentle exercise demonstrations)
- Information on local transportation options for seniors, promoting independence and access.
- Opportunities to learn about volunteer roles supporting seniors.
- Exclusive giveaways and prize drawings.
Proceeds from the expo will benefit the Friends of Aging of Carteret County, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing senior services.
“Every year, we see lives changed—whether it’s a senior finding the perfect home care match or a caregiver learning about respite options,” added Reed. “This is more than an expo; it’s a lifeline.”
