[ARCHIVED] Carteret County residents can recycle unused paint for free during the month of April

Recycle Old Latex Paint

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (March 29, 2023) – The Carteret County Solid Waste Division is encouraging Carteret County residents to take advantage of a special recycling program for latex paint through the month of April.

The month-long program is a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of unwanted and old latex paint and is a free service for all Carteret County residents. The program accepts unwanted and old latex paint at two drop-off sites throughout the county: 800 Hibbs Road, Newport and 485 Harkers Island Road, Otway.

Paint should be in original containers with intact labels that identify the product. Materials that are not accepted are oil-based alkyd paint, solidified paint, creosote and turpentine, other solvents and unmarked containers. These materials, and others, may also be brought to the Coastal Environmental Partnership Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 22.

Dropping off paint at a Carteret County convenience site keeps that material out of the waste stream. Material like latex paint collected in the recycling program goes to be made into new paint or, depending on its condition, repurposed for other uses.

For more information about this event, or to find out about future collection events, visit www.carteretcountync.gov or call the Carteret County Public Works Department at (252) 648-7878.
