[ARCHIVED] Carteret County Public Library System launches 'Barbie Club' for young enthusiasts

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (January 10, 2024) – Carteret County Public Library is excited to introduce its newest program, the Barbie Club, where young patrons can turn their imaginative dreams into reality.

Launching this January at the Beaufort, Newport, and Western Carteret branches, the Barbie Club offers a space for children to explore creativity, friendship, and imagination with Barbie and friends.

Dorothy Howell, Director of the Carteret County Public Library System, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “The Barbie Club embodies our belief that every child’s adventure begins at your library. It's a place where creativity, friendship, and imagination come to life. We’re dedicated to creating spaces where our young patrons can explore new worlds, both in the pages of a book and in the stories, they create with their Barbie dolls.”

Nine-year-old Addi Biggs, a Carteret County resident and library patron, sparked the idea for the Barbie Club after seeing the library's Lego program and wanting a similar experience for Barbie fans. This new club reflects a commitment to inclusive play and community engagement.

Working closely with Addi, Mrs. Howell developed activities that focus on creativity, storytelling, and imagination. The library has acquired large, intricately-designed wooden Barbie houses and a diverse set of dolls for each branch.

Addi actively participated in choosing the Barbie dolls for the Beaufort Branch, ensuring a broad range of characters and stories to inspire creativity and joy.

The Barbie Club extends beyond play; it fosters community, story-sharing, and friendship-building. It provides children with an opportunity to come together, explore imaginative play, and develop valuable social skills in a fun, welcoming environment.

Parents and children interested in joining the Barbie Club can find specific dates and times on the library's website at www.carteretcountypubliclibrary.com or pick up a monthly programming calendar at their local branch.
