[ARCHIVED] Carteret County prepares for Election Day

20241014 CC General 2024

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (November 4, 2024) – Tomorrow, Nov. 5, is Election Day for the 2024 General Election, offering voters their final opportunity to cast their ballots. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters casting ballots in person must do so at their designated Election Day precinct.

Voters can view sample ballots, confirm polling locations, and learn about voter requirements by accessing their voter registration record on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website

All voters will be required to show an acceptable form of photo identification in order to vote.

Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • North Carolina driver’s license
  • State ID from the NCDMV (non-operator ID)
  • Driver’s license or non-driver’s license from another state, District of Columbia, or U.S. territory (if registered in NC within 90 days of the election)
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport card
  • Voter ID card issued by the County Board of Elections
  • College or university student ID approved by the State Board of Elections
  • State or local government or charter school employee ID approved by the State Board of Elections.

If a voter does not present an acceptable ID, they may still vote by either:

  • Completing an ID Exception Form and casting a provisional ballot.
  • Voting with a provisional ballot and providing an acceptable form of photo ID to the County Board of Elections office by 5 p.m. the day before the county canvass.

For more information about voter photo ID requirements, including how to obtain a free voter ID, visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections website at ncsbe.gov/voting/voter-id.

After polls close, the county board of elections will begin posting unofficial results for mail-in absentee ballots and early voting on the NCSBE results page. Due to recent changes in state law, early voting results will be reported later than usual on election night for the 2024 General Election. This delay may also affect the reporting of Election Day results.

Under Session Law 2023-140, Section 29, county boards must wait until 7:30 p.m. to “close the polls” on early voting tabulators, delaying the counting and reporting of early voting ballots by an estimated 30 to 60 minutes. Because this is the first general election under the new law, election officials are uncertain about the exact length of the delay.

For more information on the 2024 General Election, visit the Carteret County Board of Elections website at carteretcountync.gov/434/Board-of-Elections or call the office at (252) 728-8460.
