[ARCHIVED] Carteret County to participate in “Operation Green Light” in support of local veterans

20241030 OGL Veterans

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (October 30, 2024)  Carteret County will illuminate the county courthouse cupola green from Nov. 4-11 in recognition of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a national initiative honoring military veterans.

Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans (and their families) and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

“By shining a green light, we honor veterans who have made countless sacrifices for our freedom,” said Brenda DuBose, director of Carteret County Veteran Services. “During a time of national challenges, we can all agree that those who risked their lives deserve our support. I encourage organizations, businesses, and citizens to join us in displaying a green light.”

Residents are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. By shining a green light, families can let local veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

While this event is focused around Veterans Day, participants are encouraged to continue shining the green light year-round. Share your participation on social media using #OperationGreenLight.

Carteret County Veterans Services remains dedicated to assisting veterans throughout the year. Veterans and their families can learn more about available resources by visiting the Veterans Services office at 3710-B John Platt Drive in Morehead City, calling (252) 728-8440, or visiting the county website at https://www.carteretcountync.gov/159/Veterans-Services.

The Carteret County Board of Commissioners has passed a resolution to support Operation Green Light annually in November.
