[ARCHIVED] Senior Services & CCA Announce Disaster Preparedness & Senior Grocery Event

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (June 19, 2025) – Carteret County Senior Services is partnering with Coastal Community Action (CCA) to host a "Big Pop Up" event on Friday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This collaborative effort will take place at the Leon Mann Jr. Enrichment Center, 3820 Galantis Drive in Morehead City. The event aims to support local residents with disaster recovery items and provide essential groceries to eligible seniors.

Coastal Community Action's "Big Pop Up" is designed to help the Carteret County community prepare for hurricane season. They will distribute a variety of disaster recovery items, including adult and children's diapers, wipes, washing powder, power banks, tote bags, and swag items.

In conjunction with CCA's event, Carteret County Senior Services will offer a free grocery bag distribution for seniors. To qualify, individuals must be Carteret County residents, 60 years of age or older, and complete a brief registration form at the event. Please note that this grocery bag distribution will consist of non-perishable food items and will not include fresh produce.

"We're incredibly grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with Coastal Community Action on such an important event," said Shelly Ashley, Senior Services Director. "This partnership allows us to expand our reach and provide valuable resources to our senior population while also supporting the broader community's disaster preparedness efforts. We strongly encourage all eligible seniors to attend and take advantage of this giveaway."

This grocery distribution initiative aligns with Carteret County Senior Services' ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of older adults through diverse programs and services, including wellness and nutrition programs, and assistance with senior health insurance. Events like this help the Senior Center engage new participants and expand its reach within the community.
